A 20 MW solar power plant, built on the grounds of the Erciş Sugar Factory in Van, has started production.
20 MW Capacity at Erciş Sugar Factory
Türkiye Şeker Fabrikaları AŞ (Türkşeker), in line with its renewable energy initiatives, has commissioned a 20 MW solar power plant on the grounds of the Erciş Sugar Factory in Van. According to Türkşeker data, the facility is planned to generate 48 million kWh of electricity annually and prevent approximately 30,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Dr. Muhiddin Şahin, Chairman of the Board and General Manager of Türkşeker, stated that the amount of electricity to be produced is approximately double the annual energy drawn from the grid by the factories within the institution, and that the facility will reduce costs.

Completed with the Energy Performance Contract Model
The plant at the Erciş Sugar Factory site was established using the Energy Performance Contract (EPS) method under the Energy Efficiency Law. According to Türkşeker's statement, the project in question is the largest investment realized in the public sector with this model. The plant began production after TEDAŞ acceptance procedures were completed on October 21, 2026; other acceptance processes carried out by the institution were officially finalized on October 30, 2026. The facility, which will provide 48 million kWh of electricity annually, will strengthen the institution's self-consumption power.

Second Investment After Ankara Facilities
Türkşeker commissioned its first solar energy facility with an installed capacity of 4 MW on the roofs of the Ankara Machine Factory. According to the announced data, the Ankara plant, built at a cost of approximately 70 million TL, began commercial electricity production on December 31, 2025. The facility, which meets the needs of the Etimesgut campus by producing 6.47 million kWh of electricity annually, is expected to generate 19 million TL in annual revenue and prevent 2,859 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. With the commissioning of the Erciş plant, Türkşeker has expanded its clean energy portfolio.
