268 Thousand Tons of Produce Sold in Istanbul Wholesale Markets in July

Over 268 thousand tons of fruits and vegetables were traded in Istanbul's wholesale markets throughout July, with tomatoes and watermelons topping the supply list.
July Activity in Istanbul Wholesale Markets
According to data from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Wholesale Market Directorate, a significant shipment of agricultural products was made to the city's two main wholesale markets in July. A total of 206,348 tons of produce, including 83,262 tons of fruits and 123,086 tons of vegetables, were traded at the Bayrampaşa Fruit and Vegetable Market. The Ataşehir Market received 24,991 tons of fruits and 36,873 tons of vegetables. Consequently, a total of 268,212 tons of produce, comprising 108,253 tons of fruits and 159,959 tons of vegetables, were sold across both markets.
Tomatoes and Watermelons Lead the Pack
According to the statement from the IMM Wholesale Market Directorate, tomatoes ranked first in vegetable preferences and watermelons in fruit preferences among consumers in July. A total of 49,273 tons of tomatoes and 23,097 tons of watermelons were sold in the wholesale markets. Following watermelons in fruits were cherries with 15,713 tons and melons with 15,538 tons, while bananas, peaches, and nectarines were other prominent varieties. On the vegetable side, after tomatoes, sales included 19,083 tons of cucumbers, 15,201 tons of potatoes, and 14,439 tons of peppers.
Wholesale Market Prices and Records
Official data recorded average kilogram prices in July for watermelons at 15.31 TL, tomatoes at 52.81 TL, cherries at 87.81 TL, and onions at 50.38 TL. Cucumbers were traded at an average price of 21.09 TL, potatoes at 38.75 TL, and peppers at 67.42 TL. The most expensive agricultural product of the month was pomegranate, at 195 Turkish Lira per kilogram. It was followed by mulberries at 192.50 TL, figs at 184.69 TL, okra at 165.94 TL, mushrooms at 146.56 TL, and dried garlic at 141.88 TL.
