Ministry of Agriculture Announces Grain Production and Stock Figures

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced an expected wheat production of 24.5 million tons and barley production of 10 million tons, with TMO stocks reaching 17.5 million tons.

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı evaluated sectoral developments at the opening of the International Association of Operative Millers (IAOM) Eurasia Conference held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. Stating that relations between the two countries have reached the level of strategic partnership, Yumaklı noted that the trade volume, which was $1 billion ten years ago, has currently exceeded $3 billion. Making evaluations regarding bilateral trade targets, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı said:

Drawing attention to the effects of climate change on agricultural production, Minister Yumaklı recalled that the grain harvest experienced a decrease last season due to drought and frost. Stating that production estimates have increased with the effect of rainfall, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı made the following statement:

Yumaklı stated that market regulation is being carried out against climate-induced fluctuations in production, and announced that the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has purchased 12.3 million tons of grain from its purchase centers across the country this year. According to TMO records, this purchase marks the highest level in the institution's history, and with carry-over stocks, the total stock amount has reached 17.5 million tons. Minister Yumaklı stated that they are pursuing a policy that prioritizes efficient use of water resources, drought-resistant varieties, and planned production to ensure food supply security, and that storage capacity is also being increased.

Yumaklı stated that Turkey has been the world's number one exporter of flour and the second in pasta exports since 2005, and conveyed that they want to share their processing industry experience with regional countries.
