Antalya Metropolitan Municipality has ended frost vigils and product loss by equipping 700 producers with digital sensors across 2,000 decares of greenhouse area in Serik.
The Antalya Metropolitan Municipality's Department of Agricultural Services has launched a comprehensive technological initiative in the Burmahancı neighborhood of Serik district, an area with intensive under-cover cultivation. Within the scope of the project carried out by the municipality, approximately 2,000 decares of greenhouse area belonging to 700 greenhouse producers are now monitored via digital sensors. These devices, distributed free of charge to producers, enable real-time tracking of temperature, humidity, and irrigation parameters in greenhouses through mobile devices. Visiting the project site, Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Büşra Özdemir explained the convenience offered by the project in her own words:
The newly established infrastructure offers an early intervention capability against the critical agricultural frost risk faced by under-cover producers, especially during the winter season. Head of the Department of Agricultural Services, Sertaç Gökhan, reported that the system automatically warns farmers when night temperatures drop to critical levels, allowing precautions to be taken before frost damage occurs. Gökhan stated that real-time monitoring of indoor humidity levels will enable accurate planning of ventilation periods in greenhouses, significantly preventing fungal plant diseases. The system creates a balanced environment for plant development by providing microclimate control.
The optimized greenhouse climate, based on sensor data, minimizes yield loss while also contributing to the reduction of input costs. Department Head Sertaç Gökhan explained the effects of the application on agricultural productivity with the following statements:

Gökhan also emphasized that controlled production will prevent excessive irrigation, unnecessary pesticide use, and fuel waste from heating, which will directly reflect positively on operating costs.
Farmers, who are heavily involved in pepper production in the region, stated that physical greenhouse vigils have ended with sensor technology. Producers in the field expressed their satisfaction with the following words:
Serik Burmahancı Neighborhood Head Mehmet Büyükavcı highlighted the critical importance of humidity control in pepper cultivation and summarized the advantage of the new system as follows:
