The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has advanced its 2026/27 sales season, commencing barley and wheat supplies to maintain market supply-demand balance and support the feed sector.
TMO Advances Sales Season
The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has announced that it is advancing the start of its 2026/27 sales season and has begun supplying products, taking into account market needs and developments in supply-demand balance. The official statement from the institution included the following remarks:
'2026 has been a production year marked by record wheat and barley output and a strong supply structure. This high level of production has also been reflected in the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) procurements, leading to one of the most intensive procurement periods in our institution's history. As the wheat and barley harvest nears completion, our institution is close to finalizing the procurement process for these products.'
Initially, lower-quality wheat varieties were offered for sale via TÜRİB (Turkish Agricultural Products Exchange).
Corn Market Harvest and Price Balance
The institution's assessment reported that the corn harvest began in mid-August, with the national harvest rate currently at 20%. It was stated that no intervention purchase price was announced because market prices were favorable to producers, and the harvest in the Mediterranean region is nearing completion. The TMO statement included the following:
'As the Central Anatolia region also begins its harvest, corn supply to the market will significantly increase in the coming weeks.'
Against the trend of delaying product supply in anticipation of price increases, TMO emphasized that there is no product supply issue in the market and that all necessary measures will be taken if required.
Barley Sales Move to Support Livestock Breeders
TMO made the following assessment regarding the sales process:
'Our institution has advanced the start of sales, considering market needs and developments in supply-demand balance during the 2026/27 sales season, and has begun supplying products to the market with its strong stocks.'
The scope of products in licensed warehouses and institutional depots has been expanded, with steps taken to support the feed sector. TMO made the following statement regarding barley sales:
'Barley sales will also commence to meet the needs arising in the feed raw material market. Barley held in our institution's stocks will be made available for use by relevant sectors, primarily our livestock breeders and producers, thereby supporting the supply of feed raw materials. In this way, it is aimed to meet the potential feed raw material needs during the short transition period between production regions in the corn harvest with alternative products and to reduce the demand pressure on corn.'
