Ministry Doubles Calf and Lamb Abortion Support

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has increased the calf abortion support for cattle to TL 20,000 and for small ruminants to TL 4,000, also including losses due to infectious diseases under the support scope.

With the new regulation published in the Official Gazette by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the abortion support amounts within the scope of livestock support have been doubled. According to the new decision, the payment, which was previously applied as TL 10,000 for cattle, has been increased to TL 20,000. For small ruminant livestock, the support amount of TL 2,000 has been set at TL 4,000. Producers who meet the conditions will receive direct support of TL 20,000 per aborted cow and buffalo, and TL 4,000 per aborted sheep and goat.

In the new model announced by the Ministry, not only the cash support amounts have been increased, but also the scope of the application has been significantly expanded. In the past periods, abortion support was only provided for pregnancy losses that occurred after vaccination applications programmed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. With the newly enacted legislation, all abortion cases occurring due to infectious diseases, as well as vaccine-related situations, have been included under state support and compensation.

To benefit from the support payments, animal owners are required to notify the official veterinarian of the abortion incident without delay and obtain a detection report. While data such as farm and ear tag numbers are processed in the VETBİS system, samples taken from the aborted fetus are sent to the Veterinary Control Institute Directorate for examination for Brucellosis. If Brucellosis is detected in the laboratory analyses, animal disease compensation comes into play, while in other cases, standard abortion support assessments are approved through provincial and district agriculture directorates.

The increase in abortion payments constitutes only a part of the comprehensive livestock package offered to producers by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for the 2026 production period. In the new period, the basic calf support has been increased to TL 2,000, and buffalo calf support to TL 4,000. For small ruminant producers, the basic support for lambs and kids has been set at TL 430 per animal, while the shepherd support, which contributes to employment in farms, has been increased to TL 116,100, thereby alleviating the cost burden for producers.
