Ban on Sweeteners in Fruit Juices Coming

A new draft regulation prepared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry will completely prohibit the use of sweeteners in all concentrated, pureed, and powdered fruit juices.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has prepared a draft regulation that redefines the standards for the production of fruit juices and nectars. The regulation, which has been presented to industry representatives for their feedback, aims to ensure that consumers are accurately informed and that there is full compliance with European Union legislation.
If the draft is adopted, the use of sweeteners in all concentrated, pureed, and powdered fruit juices will be completely prohibited. While sweeteners may be used instead of sugar in nectars that do not contain added sugar, partial substitution will be permitted in low-energy products. Furthermore, the production and sale of fruit juices with a reduction of at least 30% in their natural sugar content will also be enabled.
