Adana's Mandarin Harvest Sees High Yields Amidst Low Prices
· GıdaTarım

Despite an expected 1.165 million-ton harvest in Adana, a major citrus hub in Turkey, logistical constraints and low prices are causing concern among producers as early mandarin harvesting begins.
In Adana, which accounts for 41% of Turkey's citrus production, the harvest of mandarins planted on approximately 401,000 decares has started. Agricultural workers began picking early varieties such as Okitsu, Mihowase, Early, Marisol, and Primasol in the early morning hours. While the harvested produce is being loaded onto trucks for domestic market dispatch, producers express that the expected market vibrancy at the season's opening has yet to materialize.
Thanks to favorable climatic conditions, this season is yielding an average of 3 tons per decare. Evaluating the harvest period, Yüreğir Chamber of Agriculture Chairman Mehmet Akın Doğan made the following statement:

However, despite the high yield, the fruit is selling for 8-10 Turkish Lira per kilogram on the branch.
Due to market stagnation and shipping problems, packing facilities in the region are operating at 20% capacity. Assessing the situation, Yüreğir Chamber of Agriculture Chairman Mehmet Akın Doğan described the circumstances with the following words:
Producers in the region are awaiting the opening of export channels for market recovery.
