Producer in Ağrı Establishes Direct-from-Farm Sales Model

Harun Yontar, a producer in Ağrı who benefited from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's 75% subsidized seedling support, is selling the vegetables and fruits he produces on his 30-decare land directly to consumers without intermediaries.

In Ozanlar village of Ağrı, producer Harun Yontar, who received 75% subsidized seedling support within the scope of the 'Vegetable Cultivation Expansion Project' carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has launched an exemplary agricultural production model on his 30-decare land. The producer, who has been farming for four years, combined public support with his own resources to bring vegetables, fruits, and grains to the same parcel. This production structure, introduced to the public with a harvest event attended by Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Mehmet Hüseyinoğlu, has created an alternative for farmers in the region by moving beyond traditional farming patterns.
Direct-from-Farm Sales System
The most prominent aspect of the established production model is the direct sale of harvested products to the end consumer without intermediaries. Citizens visiting the farm have the opportunity to purchase their winter vegetable and fruit needs by picking them directly from the plant. This method eliminates intermediary costs in the supply chain, while consumers gain access to fresh and affordable food. Harun Yontar stated that the direct-from-farm sales system has garnered significant interest from the local population and has facilitated the marketing process.
Product Diversity in the Garden Attracts Attention
On Harun Yontar's 30-decare land, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, melons, watermelons, beans, okra, cabbage, chickpeas, squash, sunflowers, beets, and sweet corn are being grown simultaneously. The producer has allocated 4 decares of the area to sweet corn and utilizes sunflowers for snacks and bulk sales. The producer reported that planting was delayed and ripening extended compared to last year due to heavy rainfall this season, but expressed high satisfaction with the overall yield and quality of the produce obtained.
Regional Outcomes of the Ministry's Project
Speaking at the harvest program, Ağrı Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Mehmet Hüseyinoğlu announced that approximately 100,000 seedlings have been distributed to 236 producers across the province within the project scope, which covers the years 2024, 2025, and 2026. According to the data shared by Mehmet Hüseyinoğlu, 1 million Turkish Liras of the total 1.3 million Turkish Lira project budget was covered by the Ministry's grant, while 300,000 Turkish Liras was the farmer's contribution. The application aims to expand local vegetable production in the province and increase farmer income.
