Turkey's Agricultural Output Reaches $83 Billion

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı announced that Turkey has risen to leadership in Europe and 7th globally in agricultural output with $83.2 billion.
Agricultural Output and Irrigation Investments
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı shared Turkey's production power during a lecture at Ankara Social Sciences University. According to ministry data, Turkey's agricultural output, which was $24.5 billion in 2002, rose to $83.2 billion by the end of 2025, ranking it 7th globally and 1st in Europe. Minister Yumaklı stated that the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works has invested in over 120,000 kilometers of irrigation infrastructure since 2002, and said:
"In 2002, Turkey ranked 12th in the world with an agricultural output of $24.5 billion. According to 2025 data, Turkey has risen to 7th in the world and first in Europe with an agricultural output of $83.2 billion. There are claims that 'agriculture is over in Turkey, we don't produce anything ourselves, our production is not enough, we import everything from abroad.' These are not true."
Forest Assets and Firefighting Efforts
Minister Yumaklı emphasized that an average of 500 million seeds and saplings are planted annually to protect the green homeland under the General Directorate of Forestry, and stated that Turkey is the European leader in afforestation. Recalling that 14 million saplings were planted on a single day, November 11, 2025, Yumaklı announced the firefighting fleet. According to ministry data, the fleet includes 28 aircraft, 119 helicopters, and 14 UAVs, with 194 of the 800 fire watchtowers equipped with smart systems.
Plant Production and Food Security
Yumaklı pointed out that 206 different plant products with economic value are grown across Turkey, emphasizing the continued self-sufficiency in essential products. Reporting that 1.3 million food inspections are carried out annually, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı made the following statement regarding the inspection mechanism:
"It is our shared responsibility to manage processes correctly so that safe food can reach our tables. You can report any problematic food sale, production, or service to us. If you go to a restaurant or market, every food establishment has a barcode; by scanning this with your phone, you can see when it was last inspected."
