Pesticide Residues Halt Turkish Export Products at the Border

Fresh fruit and vegetable shipments from Turkey to European Union countries were rejected due to high pesticide and heavy metal residues detected during border controls, triggering alerts within the RASFF system.
Some fresh fruits and vegetables shipped from Turkey to European Union countries have been flagged by the European Union's Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF). Shipments found to contain chemical residues above legal limits during official controls conducted at the borders of Bulgaria and Croatia were not permitted entry into the union.
According to notifications from Bulgarian authorities, active ingredients such as emamectin, formetanate, and tebufenpyrad were detected in analyses of fresh peppers. RASFF data indicated that the pesticide levels in sweet peppers reached 10 times the legal limit, while a batch of nectarines sent to Croatia was found to contain high levels of nickel.
