The harvest season for Kahramanmaraş's geographically registered Maraş pepper has commenced, with an estimated yield of 30,000 tons expected from 12,000 decares of cultivated land.
The new season's harvest for Maraş pepper, a geographically registered product of Kahramanmaraş, has started in the fields. With an estimated yield of approximately 30,000 tons expected this year, the pepper is cultivated by over 500 farmers across about 12,000 decares of land. Thanks to the province's agricultural potential, Kahramanmaraş ranks fourth in pepper cultivation nationwide and first in crushed pepper production. Producer Siyamettin Çolak evaluated the harvest process, stating:
Peppers harvested early in the morning from the fields are spread on drying racks in designated areas and left under the sun for days. The dried Maraş peppers are then transported to factories to be processed into crushed red pepper, powdered red pepper, silky crushed pepper, and 'isota'. Harvest worker Hacer Derebeyi described the process:
With the start of the season, the price per kilogram of pepper at the farmgate ranges between 150 and 200 Turkish Lira, depending on its quality. Harvest worker Ahmet Çolak discussed the market and price range:
Highlighting the product's position in foreign markets, harvest worker Hakan Diri emphasized the export channels:
