Cost Pressures Drive Farmers Towards Compact Tractors
· GıdaTarım

High financing costs and shrinking farmer incomes are shifting demand in the tractor market towards compact models under 50 horsepower, prompting Massey Ferguson to partner with ITL for this new segment.
Strategic Cooperation in Compact Tractors
The global economic slowdown, high financing costs, and declining farmer incomes are fundamentally altering the dynamics of the tractor sector. As rising costs and falling profit margins push manufacturers towards smaller models with lower operating expenses, Massey Ferguson has entered into a strategic supply partnership with International Tractors Limited (ITL) for the sub-50 horsepower segment. Speaking at a press event in Beauvais, France, Jérôme Aubrion, Senior Marketing Director for Massey Ferguson Europe and Middle East, emphasized that this move is a critical step for landowners, municipalities, and part-time producers.
Shifting Preferences in the Turkish Market
Mete Has, General Manager of AGCO Turkey and Commercial Director for the Middle East, stated that they had not previously offered products under 50 horsepower in the Turkish market. However, due to economic conditions, there has been a significant increase in demand for models in the 25-45 horsepower range. Has noted the rising need for compact machinery across a wide spectrum, from hobby farming to protected cultivation, and reported that this segment's share of the total market has reached 7-8%. The declining purchasing power of farmers and increasing operating expenses necessitate more economical solutions.
Sales Targets and Market Share
Highlighting that the volume of small tractors has reached 3,000-4,000 units in a total market scenario of 40,000 units annually, AGCO Turkey General Manager and Middle East Commercial Director Mete Has shared the strategic objectives for this market segment:
'This market has grown to constitute 10% of the total market. This means approximately 2,500 farmers annually, even in a shrinking market. As a brand, our goal is to reach every producer in Turkey. A market share of 10-20% in this segment will directly contribute 1-2 points to our current Turkish market share, which is hovering above 12%.'
New Series with Advanced Technology
Alongside the compact models, the event also saw the introduction of the MF 7S MARK 2 series, comprising six new models in the 170 to 245 horsepower range. Mete Has mentioned that they have held over 50% market share in the large tractor segment for the past 10 years, and the new series is equipped with autonomous and intelligent driving capabilities. Has added that thanks to the digital data management infrastructure, all technical data, from the tractor's real-time location to its total operating hours, can be monitored remotely and continuously.
