Harvest is underway for Bayramiç white nectarine, a product with EU-registered geographical indication from Çanakkale, with a target of 10,000 tons from 7,000 decares.
Ministry Support for Bayramiç White Nectarine Promotion
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry introduced Çanakkale's renowned Bayramiç white nectarine to the public through a special post on its social media accounts. Grown on the northern slopes of the Kaz Mountains, this nectarine variety stands out with its fuzz-free skin, pleasant aroma, and refreshing taste. The product, which received geographical indication registration through the initiatives of the Bayramiç Chamber of Agriculture, is among the values protected internationally. The Ministry announced that four types of saplings have been registered for the product, which is harvested in three different periods: early, mid, and late.
Geographical Registration from the Kaz Mountains
The unique climate, fertile lands, and cool waters of the Kaz Mountains, known as Ida in mythology, shape the fruit's aroma. Protected since 2021 with geographical indication registration by the European Union, Bayramiç white nectarine has become one of Turkey's agricultural brands that transcend borders. Despite its thin skin, its firm flesh texture provides a significant shelf-life advantage. This structural advantage allows the fruit to be shipped without spoilage in long-distance transportation and export markets.
Season Yield and Market Prices
The 2026 harvest season in the Bayramiç district of Çanakkale is in full swing as of August. This season, a yield of 10,000 tons is expected from the production activities carried out on approximately 7,000 decares in the district. The purchase price determined by traders in the market is around 50 Turkish Lira per kilogram. The product, which attracts attention with both its geographical registration and economic returns, continues to be an important source of income for regional producers.
