Era of Colored Nutrition Scores on Packaged Foods Begins

A new front-of-package nutrition labeling system, ranging from green 'A' to red 'E', is becoming mandatory for packaged foods in Turkey.
A color-coded letter system indicating the nutritional profile is being implemented on the front of packaged foods sold in Turkish markets. Under the planned regulation, products most suitable for healthy eating will be graded with a green letter 'A', while products with the weakest nutritional profiles will be graded with a red letter 'E'. The application, which aims for consumers to read the indicator directly on the front of the packaging instead of complex nutrition tables, is foreseen to be mandatory for food producers, with a transition period granted for system compliance.
The first concrete step regarding the new labeling process was taken by the General Directorate of Public Health of the Ministry of Health. While the General Directorate launched the Nutrition Score Calculator tool on its official website on August 27, 2026, the binding start date of the system and the transition calendar are expected to be clarified in the future.
