Record Prices and Harvest for Saffron
The 2026 saffron harvest season has begun with significant activity in Safranbolu, the historic district of Karabük, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. Safranbolu saffron, which has EU geographical indication registration and is defined as the world's most expensive spice, is competing with gold in the fields. According to industry data, the kilogram price of saffron has reached 900,000 TL, continuing to be a critical source of income for local producers. This valuable medicinal and aromatic plant, known as the region's red gold, continues to see high demand in both domestic and international markets.

Production Emphasis at International Festival
Amidst the harvest excitement, 1 ton of saffron pilaf was served to participants as part of the 10th International Saffron Festival held in the district this year. The events, which started with a procession between the Martyrdom Monument and Kazdağlıoğlu Square, continued at the saffron field in Gayza village.

Safranbolu Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Erol Altuntepe made the following statement at the event:
'Safranbolu saffron is one of the city's most valuable assets.'
Altuntepe stated that they will continue to support the production of saffron, the district's most important branded product, while preserving it.
