The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's updated list of adulterated and counterfeit products revealed the detection of equine meat in meat products from several businesses in Kırklareli, Mersin, and Manisa.
Equine Meat Scandal in Sucuk
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has updated and presented its list of adulterated and counterfeit products to the public to ensure food safety. Official analyses detected equine meat in sucuk products branded Kocaağa Çiftliği and Salih Kocaağa Çiftliği from Saffet Et Ürünleri, a company based in Lüleburgaz, Kırklareli. The presence of horse and donkey meat in various batches of heat-treated baton and kangal sucuk has caused significant repercussions in the market.
Similar Violations Identified in Different Provinces
The list of violations announced by the Ministry clearly shows that the scandal is not limited to Kırklareli. Equine meat was identified in the minced meat sauté of Saray Yemekçilik in the Akdeniz region of Mersin and in the red meat tantuni of an establishment named Gözde Tantuni. Equine meat was also found in the lahmacun filling of Hüseyin Usta Menekşe, operating in Manisa Merkez, while a health-threatening pharmaceutical active ingredient was detected in a paste produced by Bioclass Bitkisel Ürünler company, based in Toroslar, Mersin.
Inspections and Sanctions Will Continue Uninterrupted
Necessary criminal and administrative sanctions have been applied to these producers who disregard public health and threaten food safety. The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry announced that food inspections will continue resolutely in all provinces and districts across the country. Officials stated that companies engaging in fraudulent production will continue to be transparently exposed to the public, and field controls will be increased to ensure consumers' access to safe food.
