Jujube Harvest Begins in Salihli with High Returns

In Salihli district of Manisa, the harvest of jujube, known as 'red gold', has commenced, with the product selling for 150 Turkish Liras per kilogram in the field and reaching up to 400 Turkish Liras on market shelves.

Jujube Harvest Season Begins in Salihli

In Salihli district of Manisa, the harvest period for jujube, referred to locally as red gold and among the alternative agricultural products, has begun. As the jujubes cultivated on the foothills of the Aydın Mountains ripen, intensive harvesting efforts are underway in the orchards. The ease of cultivation compared to other agricultural products and the high returns it provides are directing the interest of farmers in the region towards this crop. While producers are pleased with the high yield, the harvest is planned to continue uninterrupted until mid-October.

Price Gap Widens from Field to Table

The jujubes grown in the region are in high demand from traders even while still on the branch. The field sales price received by the producer is around 150 Turkish Liras per kilogram. After leaving the field, the product, with the addition of transportation, packaging, and retail sales costs, finds buyers at approximately 400 Turkish Liras per kilogram in supermarkets and on stalls in major cities. The strong market demand and satisfactory harvest yield are decisive factors in Salihli producers maintaining their jujube cultivation areas.
