100 Million Lira R&D Investment for Aydın

At the Fig Workshop, initiated within the scope of the Fig Research Institute, the effects of climate change and drought on agricultural production were discussed. Mustafa Altuğ Atalay, General Director of Agricultural Research and Policies, announced that a Mycotoxin R&D Center is planned to be established in the city with a budget of approximately 100 million lira. Pointing out that the climate crisis can increase harmful species like aflatoxin and ochratoxin, Atalay stated that the project preparations are complete and expert researchers from all over Turkey will gather in Aydın to develop common solutions for mycotoxin problems in different products.

Aydın, The Leader of Turkish Figs

Aydın Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Ayhan Temiz, shared the region's strategic production power with official data. According to the 2025 data shared by Temiz, 214,000 tons of the 368,000 tons of figs harvested across Turkey were from Aydın. The city, which alone accounts for approximately 58% of the country's production, holds 65% of the total fig cultivation areas with 39,000 hectares of planted land. The importance of scientific research against changing market conditions and plant health risks was emphasized.
