Egg Production Surplus Halts Price Increases
· GıdaTarım

Following a supply shortage in the summer months, the egg market has stabilized with the introduction of new flocks, leading to a production surplus.
Market Supply and Demand Balance
The market balance for eggs, one of the products that saw the most significant price increases in August both at the producer and retail levels, is being re-established. YUM-BIR Chairman İbrahim Afyon stated that prices fell against producers in May due to a decline in consumption. Afyon emphasized that some producers had to cull their poultry in June due to insufficient exports and rising costs, creating a temporary supply gap. With the introduction of newly maturing flocks and cooler weather, supply and demand in the market have completely balanced.
Producer Costs and Price Trends
İbrahim Afyon recalled that a 30-egg case, which left the producer at 60 TL in May, was sold on market shelves between 90 TL and 110 TL, stating that these figures resulted in losses for farmers.
Evaluating the latest situation and price movements in the sector, YUM-BIR Chairman İbrahim Afyon made the following statement:
"Due to a lack of exports and costs not being covered, some producers culled their animals. Currently, our newly maturing animals have compensated for them. We now have a production surplus. Amidst falling prices, there are some price increases during periods of activity, but producers are still unable to cover their costs. The increases in the recently announced TZOB data are price changes from June to July. There is no such situation right now. With the cooling weather, supply and consumption have now balanced each other. There are no problems with egg production. We have a surplus."
