Olive oil price in Mersin drops to three-year low
· GıdaTarım

High harvest yields and carry-over stocks have pushed the price of olive oil down to around 200 Turkish Lira per liter in Mersin, a major olive production hub in Turkey.
Increased Harvest Yields Drive Down Prices
Mersin, one of the top four olive-producing provinces in Turkey, is experiencing a significant drop in olive oil prices as the harvest season intensifies. This season's exceptionally high field yields, coupled with unsold stocks from the previous year, have substantially increased the supply in the market. Olive oil is now being sold for around 200 TL per liter in the free market across the city, bringing prices back to levels seen approximately three years ago. In the Erdemli district, five-liter packages are being offered for 1,000 TL, while significant production centers like Mut, Tarsus, and Silifke are also witnessing a similar price stabilization due to the abundant harvest.

A Two-Hour Journey from Field to Factory
Harvesting activities are underway without interruption across Mersin's diverse geography, extending from sea level up to an altitude of 800 meters, driven by the diligent work of producers. Olives, carefully collected from trees and sifted, are promptly transported to processing facilities. After undergoing washing and aspiration stages in the factories, the olives are sent to crushers, transforming into ready-to-consume olive oil after a demanding process lasting about two hours. The high yield not only boosts the producer's processing tempo but also ensures the most balanced price formation seen in recent years for consumers.
