Sun-Dried Vegetables from Muş Reach Abroad

Yücel and Filiz Levent couple, who grow vegetables on 25 decares of land and dry them using traditional methods in Muş, market their products to both the local population and expatriates abroad.

Yücel Levent, 61, and his 60-year-old wife Filiz Levent, residents of Mercimekkale village in Muş, process their produce grown on 25 decares of land using traditional methods. Tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and squashes harvested daily from the field are strung on ropes by family members and workers and dried in the sun. As part of the drying effort that begins in August, a portion of the vegetables are prepared for cooking and stuffing, while the remaining part is used to make paste. The prepared winter products are offered directly to consumers at a stall set up at the 25th kilometer of the Muş-Erzurum highway.

Farmer Yücel Levent stated that they reach a wide customer base thanks to their roadside sales point and made the following statement:

The dried goods produced using natural methods meet the winter needs of expatriates longing for their homeland, as well as the local population.

Levent noted that they adhere strictly to traditional drying methods throughout the production process and said that they also supply vegetables directly to the canteens of some public and private institutions. Drawing attention to the fact that there is no other producer operating at this scale in the vicinity, farmer Yücel Levent expressed their ongoing activity as follows:
