Domestic Boron Fertilizer Used in Agriculture of Nine Countries

Turkey, holding 73% of the world's boron reserves, has surpassed raw material exports by developing boron-added fertilizers and reaching 9 countries.

Turkey Leads the World in Boron Reserves

According to data from the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Turkey holds 73% of the world's boron reserves. The country, which also accounts for 48% of global boron production, aims to transform this strategic mineral into added value in agricultural production. According to official data updated by the Ministry in 2026, sales of 2.5 million tons of boron products in 2024 generated $1.322 billion in revenue. The use of boron in plant nutrition and the fertilizer industry is becoming widespread, rather than just selling it as raw material.

International Agricultural Investment Meeting in Istanbul

An international gathering to evaluate the uses of boron in agriculture and future investment opportunities was held in Istanbul. At the event, which brought together representatives, business people, and investors from numerous countries, the market share of boron-based fertilizers developed by Turkish engineers was discussed. The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources highlights the strategic importance of using boron as a fertilizer additive, noting that it is one of the most critical micronutrients required for plant growth and development processes.

Boron-Based Fertilizer in 9 Countries

Harun Gündoğan, chairman of the board of the company producing fertilizers with boron, provided the following information regarding the product's use abroad:

'Currently, a product produced by Turks, boron fertilizer, has started to be used not only in Turkey but in 9 different countries around the world. It was tested and used in Turkey for a very long time. The results we are getting are making our farmers happy.'

Explaining the vision of opening up to the global market, Harun Gündoğan continued:

'We did not set any limits for ourselves while opening up to the world. We know that human health and the soil have no borders. Today, we are in the Americas, in Canada, in Moldova, in Azerbaijan, in Kazakhstan. Business people and state officials from many countries around the world are here.'

Stating that soil health is their primary priority, Harun Gündoğan summarized the purpose of the meeting:

'Today, the soil will be discussed. What does the soil give us, what do we give to the soil? We will work on this here today.'

Investors Emphasize Çukurova and Yield

Mustafa İzci, an investor who provided capital for the project, shared the confidence generated by the production reports:

'When we were first told about the project during our initial investment, we were truly impressed. We invested without hesitation. There were doubts and hesitations regarding its credibility. However, when we saw the tested products and reviewed the production reports, we realized that such a thing could be possible.'

Touching upon field applications, investor Sergülen Bilen evaluated the product's future in the market with the following statements:

'Many farmers in the Çukurova region are using this fertilizer. We believe that our fertilizer will come to the forefront in the coming years with the developments in the global fertilizer market.'

Bilen stated that the boron-added fertilizer formula increases agricultural production yield by 20% to 30%.

Value-Added Production and the Future

In Turkey's mineral strategy, the agricultural fertilizer sector is among the priority areas, alongside high-tech derivatives such as boron carbide and ferroboron. The element boron, widely used in the glass, ceramics, metallurgy, defense, and energy industries, is opening a new export door with its formulas that increase soil fertility in agriculture. It was noted at the summit held in Istanbul that efforts to popularize boron-added fertilizers in international agricultural markets and attract foreign investors to production facilities in Turkey will continue without slowing down.
