Critical Honey Harvest Warning Issued to Beekeepers in Manisa

The Manisa Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry alerted beekeepers, emphasizing the importance of comb capping rates and resting periods to maintain quality and hygiene standards during honey harvest.
The Manisa Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry shared technical criteria to be observed during honey harvesting in a statement for beekeepers. Directorate technical personnel stated that harvesting should not be done before three-quarters of the comb is capped, as early harvesting can increase moisture content and lead to fermentation. The statement also noted that equipment should be selected from stainless steel and excessive smoke should be avoided during the process.
Officials recommended performing the harvesting process in the late afternoon when bee flight has ceased, and informed that the extracted honey should be rested for 24 to 48 hours to remove the foam on top. Emphasizing the importance of the process for quality, Manisa Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry technical personnel commented:
