Nevşehir Maintains Turkey's Leadership in Pumpkin Seed Production

Nevşehir accounted for 50.3% of Turkey's total pumpkin seed production with its 47,443-ton harvest in 2025.

Nevşehir continues its top position in Turkey for shelled pumpkin seed production. According to official data shared by the Nevşehir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, a total of 47,443 tons of shelled pumpkin seeds were harvested from 405,464 decares of land in the city in 2025. With this production volume, Nevşehir single-handedly met 50.3% of Turkey's total yield, once again cementing its undisputed leadership in the sector. The harvest of the geographically indicated product was carried out with a large-scale official program in Karapınar Town, affiliated with the Acıgöl district.

Integration of Tourism and Agriculture

Speaking at the harvest program, Nevşehir Governor Hüseyin Kök emphasized that shelled pumpkin seeds, which have geographical indication registration, are one of the province's most significant agricultural assets. Governor Kök pointed out the need to combine the strong tourism potential of the Cappadocia region with local agricultural production, stating that this integration would allow local products to reach much wider markets. Kök stated that projects to protect the labor of producers and strengthen rural development will be carried out with determination and wished farmers a fertile and profitable harvest season.

Successful Producers Awarded in Ceremony

In addition to Governor Hüseyin Kök, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Ebubekir Gizligider and Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry Özgür Memiş attended the harvest event in Karapınar Town. Thematic competitions were organized as part of the event, bringing together protocol members, producers, and students. Awards were presented in a ceremony to farmers and students who ranked in the Shelled Pumpkin Themed Painting Competition and the Shelled Pumpkin Producers Competition. Throughout the program, Nevşehir's agricultural production power, producer labor, and the critical importance of branding local agricultural varieties were once again highlighted.
