Red Meat Production Contraction Pushes Prices Above 1000 Lira

Red meat production in Turkey declined by 10.5% year-on-year, with rising food inflation and supply shortages driving meat prices to record highs.
According to TurkStat data, red meat production in Turkey decreased by 10.5% in 2025 compared to the previous year, falling to 1 million 885 thousand 130 tons. During this period, when the decline in beef production was recorded at 11.5%, the kilogram price of minced and cubed meat in butcher shops surpassed the 1000 TL threshold due to the impact of the contraction in supply.
TurkStat data revealed that annual general inflation reached 31.75% in July, while food inflation stood at 37.53%. According to Türk-İş research, the hunger line rose to 36,939 TL, the poverty line to 120,325 TL; the monthly cost of living for a single worker was calculated at 47,758 TL, with the current minimum wage at 28,075 TL.
