Bonito Abundance Drives Down Fish Prices on Market Stalls

Sales at Gürpınar Fishery Market doubled in the first week of the fishing season, as a heavy supply of bonito entering the market rapidly pulled down prices on stalls.
In the first week of the fishing season, which began on September 1, 1850 tons of fish were sold at Istanbul's Gürpınar Fishery Market. According to data from Istanbul Management Renewal Inc. (İSYÖN), 904 tons of the fish supply, which doubled compared to last year, consisted of bonito and 552 tons of anchovy.
The significant increase in supply was directly reflected on price tags. Bonito, which previously ranged from 100 to 250 TL per piece in neighborhood markets, has dropped to 60-70 TL levels in supermarkets. In Üsküdar Fish Market, 4 bonito are being offered for sale at 500 TL.
