Sweetener Use to Be Banned in Fruit Juices

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has opened a new draft regulation, which bans the use of sweeteners in fruit juice production and redefines product standards, for industry consultation.

Sweetener Ban in Fruit Juices

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has opened a new draft regulation, prepared for fruit juices and similar products, for industry consultation. According to the regulation planned in alignment with European Union legislation, the use of sweeteners will be completely banned in fruit juice, concentrate, fruit powder, and water-extracted products produced from concentrate. Fruit juices with reduced natural sugar content will also be included in this restriction. Industry representatives can submit their views and suggestions on the draft regulation to the Ministry until September 25, 2026.

Nectar Exception and New Standards

The new draft defines certain flexibilities and exceptions for fruit nectars. While the use of sweeteners instead of sugar is approved for fruit nectars produced without added sugar, a portion of the sugar in low-calorie nectars can be replaced with sweeteners. Furthermore, according to the Ministry's draft regulation, beverages with a natural sugar content reduced by at least 30%, while maintaining other product characteristics, will be officially classified as fruit juices with reduced natural sugar content.
