Fruit and Vegetable Drying Facility Starts Production in Antalya

Antalya Metropolitan Municipality subsidiary EKDAĞ A.Ş. is adding value to producers' crops by commissioning a modern facility in Korkuteli with a daily drying capacity of 7.5 tons.

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Drying Integrated Facility, built by Antalya Metropolitan Municipality subsidiary EKDAĞ A.Ş. in the Bozova neighborhood of Korkuteli district, has commenced production. The modern facility, constructed on a total land area of 15,500 square meters, boasts a daily drying capacity of 7.5 tons and an hourly packaging capacity of 1,000 units. Initially, agricultural products such as tomatoes, pears, plums, oranges, apples, and mushrooms are processed at the center. With the commissioning of the facility, local producers have gained the opportunity to process their harvested fresh fruits and vegetables under hygienic conditions.

The project aims to transform farmers' produce into value-added final products, preventing them from selling their crops at low prices during the harvest season. EKDAĞ A.Ş. Chairman of the Board, Mehmet Manavoğlu, expressed one of the facility's objectives as preventing waste, stating:

Manavoğlu announced that as capacity increases, products brought from all over Antalya will be processed. Vegetable exporter Mehmet Kalaycı also visited the facility and stated their aim to access foreign markets, particularly with products like dried okra.

Drying processes at the facility are carried out under controlled conditions using air drying (AIR DRY) technology, utilizing solar energy and perlite. Products such as apples, pears, strawberries, bananas, oranges, and mandarins, received from producers, are dried and then delivered in bulk to the producer or buyer companies. Thanks to the established packaging units, packaging can also be done without human contact according to special requests. In the coming period, the local agricultural economy will be strengthened by adding vegetables such as dried eggplant, peppers, okra, and tomatoes to the product range.
