Producers in the Black Sea region who process their hazelnuts in cracking and crushing facilities instead of selling them raw to traders are increasing their profit margins by up to 200%.
Following the harvest and drying processes completed in August in the Black Sea Region, hazelnut producers have turned to alternative income models. Farmers who do not wish to deliver their product raw directly to traders are creating congestion at cracking, roasting, and packaging facilities. Mustafa Dereköylü, who operates a hazelnut cracking and roasting facility in the Ortahisar district of Trabzon, stated that the amount of product brought for commercial processing has significantly increased compared to last season. Stating that producers are turning to shelled hazelnuts and hazelnut paste, Hazelnut Cracking and Roasting Facility Operator Mustafa Dereköylü summarized the situation as follows:

Processing hazelnuts into shelled nuts or paste in vacuum-sealed packages directly multiplies the net income obtained by the producer. Facility operator Mustafa Dereköylü pointed out that earnings vary significantly depending on the yield and type of hazelnut brought in. Hazelnut Cracking and Roasting Facility Operator Mustafa Dereköylü made the following statements regarding the returns from processed products released to the market:
Dereköylü also added that for product groups with very high yield and quality, the profit rate provided by the producer can reach up to 200%.
