New Season Target for Dried Fig Exports Set at 60 Thousand Tons

Turkey, preparing to close the 2025/26 season with over $350 million, aims to increase its dried fig export volume to over 60,000 tons in the new period.

Yusuf Gabay, Chairman of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters' Association, announced that they aim to exceed 60,000 tons in dried fig exports in the 2026-27 season. This new target indicates an approximately 9% increase over the current period. Turkey earned $343 million for its 55,000 tons of dried fig exports between October 15, 2025, and September 8, 2026, in the 2025/26 season. According to association data, total revenue is expected to surpass $350 million by the end of the ongoing season.

Comprehensive field preparations are underway in the Aegean Region to ensure product quality and food safety before the new harvest period. Drying racks and informational brochures are being distributed to producers in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Provincial Directorates of Agriculture and Forestry in Aydın and İzmir. Portable UV hand lamps are being delivered through muhtar offices to enable producers to easily sort out aflatoxin-contaminated figs in their drying areas. These measures aim to maintain the product's competitiveness in international markets and its food safety reliability.

It has been noted that the share of Turkish dried figs in the global market has significantly increased in the Far East. While the European Union maintained its leadership with 17,775 tons of purchases and a 32% market share, 16,000 tons were shipped to the Americas. On a country basis, the USA ranked first with $58 million, followed by Germany with $44.5 million, France with $44 million, China with $17.7 million, and Canada with $13.5 million. Exports to the Far East increased from 7,000 tons to 8,795 tons, raising its total share to 16%.
