Garlic Harvest Increases, But Field Prices Decline

Garlic yields in Kastamonu and Gaziantep saw increases of up to 40%, yet the drop in field prices has not been reflected on consumer shelves.
The garlic harvest, now completed in Kastamonu, Gaziantep, and Kahramanmaraş, has seen a production increase of between 25% and 40% compared to last year. However, this rise in output has directly translated into a decrease in producer prices. Taşköprü garlic, which was bought at 120-150 TL per kilogram last season, has fallen to 100-120 TL in the field, while Araban garlic prices have dropped from 60 TL to the 30-40 TL range.
Despite the sharp decline in field prices, Taşköprü garlic is being sold for 400 TL per kilogram in the Istanbul market, and Araban garlic for 200 TL. Producers state that the falling prices in the field, due to excess supply, are not being reflected on consumer shelves, and the price gap is widening.
