Women Revitalize Local Wheat in Earthquake-Hit Region

KEDV launches the Clean Bread Project in earthquake-affected Hatay, Malatya, and Adıyaman to strengthen local wheat production and food supply chains.

The Foundation for the Support of Women's Work (KEDV) has launched the Clean Bread Project to revive agricultural production in Hatay, Malatya, and Adıyaman, provinces affected by the February 6 earthquakes. The project aims to preserve the chain from field to bakery for local wheat varieties specific to the region and to bring small producers together under one roof. The goal is to strengthen local supply networks against risks such as agricultural frost, floods, and drought, and to secure food supply.

Within the scope of the implementation, regular technical training, knowledge sharing meetings, and mentorship programs will be organized for farmers. It is planned to develop hygiene, traceability, and high food safety standards in wheat-based products together with the producers. By establishing joint production areas, the cost pressure will be alleviated, while the aim is to deliver local wheat to national markets with added value through product standardization and multi-channel marketing strategies.

Female farmers and women's cooperatives, at the center of the Clean Bread Project, will take a leading role in the dissemination of local wheat varieties. By creating collective income models, producers will be enabled to establish a sustainable structure with their own resources, and food security will be ensured at the household level. This solidarity network, which creates an inclusive and fair food ecosystem, is expected to serve as a model for other agricultural production basins across Turkey.
