McDonald's Australia has made a significant investment exceeding $1 billion in 2025, sourcing over 347 million kilograms of agricultural products from local producers.
Billion Dollar Boost for Local Producers
The annual Aussie Shopping List report released by McDonald’s Australia has revealed the global restaurant chain's extensive agricultural supply network. According to company data, over 347 million kilograms of agricultural raw materials and food products were sourced from Australian producers in 2025. The total payments made to local farmers and suppliers exceeded the $1 billion mark. It was announced that over 90% of the purchased products were sourced locally, with these purchases providing economic support to more than 15,000 farmers across the country.
Record Purchases of Potatoes and Beef
Potatoes accounted for the largest share of the company's disclosed supply list by a significant margin. McDonald's Australia purchased a total of 140 million kilograms of potatoes in 2025 for its fries and breakfast potato products. Beef ranked second on the list with 89 million kilograms. It was stated that the beef sourced from local producers is utilized both in the domestic market and in global restaurants. Additionally, chicken meat supply for the menus reached 23 million kilograms.
Significant Volumes of Milk and Eggs
Notable figures were also announced for animal production and field crop items. The company sourced 51 million liters of fresh milk for its McCafé and dessert offerings. For bread and baked goods, 21 million kilograms of wheat flour and 6.8 million kilograms of canola oil were purchased. The report indicated that the procurement of 5.2 million kilograms of eggs for breakfast menus corresponds to approximately 89 million individual eggs.
New Menus Drive Agricultural Demand
Changing consumer trends and the addition of new products to the menu have directly increased the demand for agricultural raw materials. Thanks to the demand for desserts and fresh fruit products, apple purchases increased by 15% compared to the previous period. While new chicken and burger varieties kept meat demand strong, beetroot was also included in the supply chain with the seasonal McOz product. The company also expanded its local procurement of plant-based products such as oats and almonds for alternative beverage and meal preparations.
