Intensifying Inter-Company Competition in the Global Turkey Market

According to Agrifood Strategies data, US-based Jennie-O ranks first in global turkey production, with the US and Russia leading on a country basis.

According to data prepared by Agrifood Strategies and published by Agroexpert, the leading companies in global turkey meat production for 2025 have been identified. US-based Jennie-O took the top spot on the list with a volume of 340,000 tons, followed by another US company, Butterball, in second place with 316,000 tons. Russia-based Damate ranked third globally with a production of 268,000 tons. Rounding out the top five were American giants Cargill Protein with 218,000 tons and Farbest Foods with 205,000 tons, followed by European producers LDC, Heidemark, and AIA.

In terms of overall turkey supply by country, the US maintained its clear leadership in 2025 with a total volume of 2.198 million tons. Russia positioned itself as the second-largest producer globally with over 452,000 tons. In Europe, Germany achieved the highest production figures with 376,000 tons, followed by Poland with 350,000 tons. Other significant European producers on the list included Spain with 245,000 tons, France with 244,000 tons, and Italy with 236,000 tons.

Albert Davleev, President of Agrifood Strategies, stated that approximately half of the hatching egg needs for turkey production in Russia are met through imports, and the domestic genetic infrastructure is insufficient. The sector's future growth potential is linked to increasing domestic consumption, exports, and domestic breeding capacity. Albert Davleev also highlighted that the primary risk factors pressuring global turkey farming include outbreaks of avian influenza and Newcastle disease, trade restrictions, tightening production standards, and intense competition from the chicken meat sector.
